Unit6 Do you like bananas?

The First Period

Teaching Aims and Demands

1. Knowledge Objects

Key vocabulary: bananas, oranges, pears, tomatoes, hamburgers, strawberriesFrench fries, salad, ice cream, broccoli.

Target language:

Do you like bananas?

Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.

I like bananas.

I don’t like hamburgers.

2. Ability Objects

Train students’ listening skill.

Train students’ communicative competence using the key vocabulary and the target language.

3. Moral Objects

No matter what food you like or don’t like, you should eat something healthy.

Teaching Key Points

The names of food.

Ask and answer questions about likes and dislikes.

Use the key vocabulary and the target language learned in this class to describe situations in one’s own lives.

Section A

Step 1 Key Vocabulary

1.     Showing pictures of foods, by using the questions ofWhat’s this? ” and “What’re these?” to teach and practice the names of the food: bananas, oranges, pears, tomatoes, hamburgers, strawberriesFrench fries, salad, ice cream, broccoli.

2.     Ask students in groups to read the vocabulary.

3.     Spot test: pick some pictures up and demand some students to enounce English names of food.

Step 2 1a

 Call student attention to the picture and ask.

T: What can you see? Can you see hamburgers?

Ss: Yes, I can.

T: It’s d. Right?

Ss: Yes.

T: Now, you are asked to match the words with the pictures.

Students work on their own.

Correct the answers.

Answers: d g a h e f c d i

(This activity introduces the vocabulary)

Step 3 Presentation

Call student attention to the picture in teacher’s hand and ask.

T; I have bananas. Do you have bananas?

Ss: No, I don’t.

T: Do you have a pen?

Ss: Yes, I do.

T: I like bananas. I don’t like hamburgers.  Do you like bananas?

Ss: Yes, I do. /No, I don’t.

T: I don’t like hamburgers. Do you like hamburgers?

Ss: Yes, I do. /No, I don’t.

T: Do you like oranges/…?

Ss: Yes, I do. /No, I don’t.

 

Then, repeat the dialogue, and ask student individually to answer.

Step 4 1c Pairwork

Students work in pairs. Make their own conversations using the key vocabulary and the target language. One student ask and the other one answer, then change the role. Deal with any problems the students raise while practicing.

Step 5 1b

Point out the boxes where students will write a number for each conversation.

The first one is done for you.

Play the recording .this time students listen and number the conversations 1-3

Check the answers. (2 1 3)

Step 6 2a

Let’s come to 2a.you will listen to three conversations and circle the names of foods you hear. Point out the sample answer.

Play the recording and students listen and circle the foods they hear.

Check the answers.

Answers: hamburgers, broccoli, ice cream.

Step 4 2b

Call students’ attention to the cartoon story.

You are to fill in the missing words while listening to the tape.

Answers: 1.hamburgers 3. hamburgers 3.broccoli 4.broccoli 5.ice cream 6.ice cream

Step 5 Write and Practice

Say the conversations in speech bubbles in Activity 2b and have students repeat.

Write the sentence on the blackboard.

I like hamburgers.

I don’t like broccoli.

Ask students make sentences follow the above example.

Then ask students draw a table and list what they like and dislike separately. Then Work in pairs to make dialogue as the model:

A: I like bananas. Do you like bananas?

B: Yes, I do. /No, I don’t.

A: I don’t like oranges. Do you like oranges?

B: Yes, I do. /No, I don’t.

Then A and B change the role.

Call same pairs to perform before the class.

Step 5 Homework

1. Cope the key vocabulary for 5 times.

2. Make new dialogue by the new sentence structures:

Do you like…?

Yes, I do.  No, I don’t.

Step 6 Summary

In this class, we’ve learned the names of foods and practiced asking and answering questions about likes and dislikes and how to express likes and dislikes.
